The final round of the
Supermoto Series went down on September 28th, at IMI Motorsports Complex in Dacono. Better weather could not have been asked for and the crowds were the biggest of the season. This was the first round where there were a number of vendors all located in one area of the pits and it really added another level to the overall experience. Nearly all of the other racing disciplines had finished for the year so there were many new faces out to get one last day of racing for the summer.
The mini racers were out with the most force. They pushed their little bikes as hard as they could in any class that didn’t include the dirt section. The addition to the grids from out of towners, road racers, motocrossers, flat trackers, and minis were greatly appreciated. Hopefully a few will return for more of next season.
In the Novice class we saw a dominant performance again from Dawson Schieffer, followed by Eric Siefkas, and George Volentir made sure they knew he came to race taking third in the class.
The Asphalt A class had Timmy Velasquez on the top step followed by Geoff Cesmat and then Brad Hendry in third.
Justin Muir secured his move up in classes with one more first place finish in Beginner class, he was followed in second by Adam Wells, and Lindsey Richter took third.
Sportsman class saw the return of Tyler Arbus on his big wheels to stir things up, he took first, with DRZs piloted by Kevin Bland and Dehan Davis taking second and third respectively.
The mini moto invasion was strong in Asphalt B and they had a blast, but unfortunately for them the adage of “no replacement for displacement” held true. Mike Surrat surprised no one taking the top step and was followed by fellow road racer Sam Roberts and lastly by Dehan Davis in third. Youth Mini was again a sweep by the Cavazos brothers, first place went to Matthew, second went to Christian, and Gabriel brought home the final trophy with his third place finish.
The lightweight amateur class saw good race action with Lauren Volentir taking first over Kevin Bland in second and Dawson Schieffer in third.
The 450 class welcomed an old face back to the podium as Brian Lehfeldt took third. He was bested by Chris Morgan in second and Timmy Velasquez took the top step on the podium.
Lauren Volentir once again had an easy time taking first in the Women’s class and Lindsey Richter still had more fun collecting her second place trophy. Volentir made an appearance in the intermediate class and took third place. She gave up second place to Michael Henao and first went to Mike Surrat.
Open pro went pretty much as expected with Timmy Velasquez collecting his final first place trophy of the season, while Brad Hendry collected a second place trophy and Chris Morgan collected the third place trophy.
The final class of the day was the adult mini class and was the second largest grid of the day, let’s hope those minis come back next season. Adam Wells had no trouble taking first place on his KTM 65, he was followed across the line by Dennis Stowers in second, and Nyles Gourlie took third. It was a perfect day of supermoto racing and a great way to end the season.
A Big thanks to Dehan Davis for the write up and getting the great photos from Xtreme Xposure!
